The grant will help fund the development of new park and recreation facilities on 11 acres adjacent to Newport Middle School.
Carteret County must contribute matching funds.
This is great news.
The county submitted its application for the PARTF grant in January after both the Carteret County Board of Commissioners and the Carteret County Board of Education had approved a Memorandum of Understanding for use of the unused 11 acres next to the school for a district park that would serve county residents as well as school students.
If all goes as planned the park will include six lighted tennis courts, a 5,000-square-foot recreation center, youth soccer fields, outdoor basketball court, restroom and concession facility, a playground, parking area and walking trail.
Improvements planned by the county to the existing facilities include landscaping, lighting and expansion of the walking trails.
Newport is a great place to raise a family. We are fortunate to live in a community that cares for its people.
Newport has several newer subdivisions such as Park Meadows , Gracelyn Park and South Park with homes ready to move in.

Pictures of our wonderful Newport Park on Howard Blvd. We love taking our children and grandchildren to play here.
The new park will be a great new addition to Newport and will provide a larger area with more options for the community to enjoy.
