This is the time of year my kids look forward to…

 It brings back memories from my childhood as I would sit in the middle of our own Strawberry Field and eat strawberries till my stomach hurt so bad I couldn’t stuff another into my mouth.  My parents said I would even eat the green ones…yuck! 

We picked close to 15 pounds on Friday afternoon and there are no strawberries to be found at our home this Monday morning.  I think we are going to turn into Strawberries.

Hope Mission is a Christian ministry of compassion to the disadvantaged, displaced, and less fortunate citizens of Carteret County, North Carolina. The mission, which has been in existence for over 15 years, operates a community kitchen (formerly known as The Soup Kitchen), an emergency financial assistance ministry, a homeless shelter, and a long-term drug and alcohol residential recovery program for men and women. The mission is located in Morehead City, on the central coast of North Carolina. Hope Mission runs the only soup kitchen, homeless shelter and recovery homes in all of Carteret County.

Carteret County must contribute matching funds.

This is great news.

The county submitted its application for the PARTF grant in January after both the Carteret County Board of Commissioners and the Carteret County Board of Education had approved a Memorandum of Understanding for use of the unused 11 acres next to the school for a district park that would serve county residents as well as school students.

 If all goes as planned the park will include six lighted tennis courts, a 5,000-square-foot recreation center, youth soccer fields, outdoor basketball court, restroom and concession facility, a playground, parking area and walking trail.

Improvements planned by the county to the existing facilities include landscaping, lighting and expansion of the walking trails.
